Local talent Taylor Kinney has been cast as a firefighter in an NBC pilot called "Chicago Fire."

The Lancaster Mennonite High School graduate and boyfriend of pop star Lady Gaga has landed a lead role in the pilot ordered by NBC, which the network will consider for a regular series in the fall.

Kinney, 30, previously appeared in the CW Network's "The Vampire Diaries," as well as NBC's "Trauma."

"Chicago Fire" follows the men and women of the Chicago Fire Department, according to a recent story on deadline.com a Hollywood entertainment news site. Kinney is playing "adrenaline-junkie" Squad Lt. Kelly Severide, the leader of elite firefighters who respond to the most dangerous fires or rescue operations, the site reported.

Kinney most recently has been in local and national news as the boyfriend of singer Lady Gaga, who has joined him in Lancaster on visits with his family, who still lives in Manheim Township.

The couple met when filming Gaga's video for her song "You and I."

At Lancaster Mennonite, Kinney was a star on its volleyball court and was Section Two Player of the Year in volleyball in 2000, the year he graduated.

Kinney, who was not involved in acting in high school, went to West Virginia University after leaving the county. He now lives in California.
